Media coverage of high profile cases often impact public opinion long before a jury can be chosen. This results in prospective jurors having prejudged the defendant long before reporting for jury duty. This negatively impacts the courtβs ability to be fair and unbiased.
Would be false if: Scientific or statistical evidence classifying media coverage before a trial begins with the result of the case indicating no correlation of any measurable amount.

While this could be true, change of venue is an option in most cases.
That is a valid point, however, the reach of media can go across venues. This is especially true with the 24-hour news cycle.
While that may be true, judges can be recused, juries can be locked down and while cases may get a lot of media attention, getting ENOUGH attention to jeopardize a case is less likely with a new venue.
