Progressive Web Apps make dedicated native mobile apps unnecessary for most businesses in 2026
PWAs now deliver fast loading, offline support, and app-like UX directly in the browser, closing enough of the gap with native apps that most businesses no longer need to fund a separate iOS/Android codebase to reach mobile users.
Would be false if: False if a majority of businesses shipping a PWA in place of native apps see materially worse mobile engagement/retention/conversion than comparable native-app competitors in the same category.

For
Twitter's PWA is the standard example β full functionality, fast even on weak connections, no App Store gatekeeping or 30% cut. For content/commerce apps without heavy device-API needs, that's a strictly better deal.
Against
PWAs still can't reliably do background push on iOS, deep OS integration, or show up in App Store search β which is a real discovery channel a lot of businesses aren't willing to give up, gap or no gap.
